BANGOR Beal College's Welding Technology Department earned accreditation from the American Welding Society (AWS) last month, giving graduates of the program more credentials and greater opportunity for successful post-graduation careers.

'The driving force behind seeking this accreditation was to see every graduate of our welding program finish with an AWS certification,' said Corey Leighton, Director of Operations at Beal College. 'That certification is an extra seal of approval which is recognized worldwide, and gives our graduates the ability to open more doors for future employment.'

The accreditation for Beal College's Welding Technology Department gives individuals and companies the chance to obtain welder certification locally from an approved facility.Any welder who wishes to obtain a nationally recognized AWS certification may do so at the Beal College Welding Test Center in Bangor.

'We are always looking for things to help make our student more employable, this does just that,' said Jesse Crosby, Welding Technology Program Director at Beal College. 'This is not just available for new students, but it's also an asset for longtime welders who may have never had the chance to get AWS certification locally and affordably. This accreditation now offers that opportunity.'

Both Crosby and Beal College Welding Instructor Michael Collins played pivotal roles in the college's ability to earn AWS accreditation.
