ORONO The University of Maine's Emera Astronomy Center has announced a pair of ongoing programs for the month of April.

'To Space andBack' will take place at 7:00 PM on every Friday in April. The program takes audiences on an incredible journey from the far reaches of our known universe to our own planet. It is an extraordinary story of human ingenuity and incredible engineering, describing how the technology that transports us through space is paving the way for the devices and apps we use every day. What is happening above is coming back down to Earth!

Space exploration, our greatest adventure, is having a big impact on our lives from cell phones and digital cameras, to new advances in medical technologies going into space improves life as we know it here on Earth! During the program, we will explore Maine's local connection to space exploration, as well as how private industry and the University of Maine participate in this adventure.

The second program is 'In My Backyard,' set to take place at 2:00 PM each Sunday in April. Children's entertainer Fred Penner narrates and sings for this lively journey into his backyard, where we discover all sorts of things - the changing seasons, rainbows, constellation patterns, planets and moon phases set to music are just a few of the treats in store.

From day to night to sunrise, looking at the world and space around us, 'In My Backyard' is a journey that shows how much fun learning about our world can be. This program is geared toward children 4-8 years old.
