LEWISTON Northeast Bank announced a $1,500 donation to support Sarah's House of Maine, a hospitality house that assists cancer patients and their caregivers as they receive treatment at the Lafayette Family Cancer Center.

'Sarah's House is addressing an aspect of cancer care that often goes unnoticed,' said Jeanne A. Hulit, president of the Community Banking Division. 'As we have all been affected by cancer in some way, the bank is honored to support their efforts to help ease the burden of those battling this disease.'

Sarah's House of Maine was founded after Sarah Robinson, a Mainer, Rotarian and real estate agent in the greater Bangor area was diagnosed with cancer. While Sarah lived near facilities offering cancer care, she met many patients that traveled great distances for treatment. She witnessed firsthand the toll it took on so many both physically and financially. It was Robinson's dream to have a place where patients of the Eastern Maine Medical Center's Cancer Care, and their caregivers could stay and recover, focusing on healing rather than the stress of traveling back and forth for treatment. Sarah's House officially opened in 2014.
