Take a vacation

I am writing to you now from an airplane headed south to Florida for an extended vacation with my family. I don't know about you, but I don't feel like I got a summer at all. In fact, my vitamin D levels can prove that.

Traveling and packing up my family got me thinking about what we need or just think we need. Because airlines charge for luggage (and charge a lot, by the way), I packed myself and my husband in one suitcase for a 10-day vacation. (Of course hubby had far less space in the bag than I did, but oh well.) How does one pack only what one needs when traveling? We need hair products and such, but don't have the room for all of them. How do we plan for vacation hair?

First of all, it's vacation and you need to give your hair a vacation just as much as your body. If you're going away to relax, take that approach with your hair and makeup too. After all, we spend every day putting makeup on and styling our hair. What better excuse than vacation to let our skin and hair heal and get a break. Don't pack the dryer and flat iron. Instead, pack the leave-in conditioner, headbands and elastics. Let your hair air dry - give it a break. If you're going away to warm climate, the sun is going to be harsh on it anyway. Use a leave I conditioner as a styling aid and get some travel-size color protecting shampoo and conditioner. The holiday season is the perfect time to stock up on travel sizes. This is when companies produce them in abundance. Even if you don't plan to travel this winter, this is the time to stock up.

Make sure you always ask your hairdresser what they recommend for products as well as easy ways to style your hair that take little effort. Go on vacation and relax; we all work way too hard. I promise, I packed no makeup or hair styling tools for my vacation and I challenge you to do the same. I'm going to relax and enjoy my family and the sunshine.
