Festival favorites combined with new editions create a memorable weekend on the Bangor Waterfront

BANGOR The 2014 edition of the American Folk Festival on the Bangor Waterfront is in the books, and festival organizers are calling it a great success.

'Every year we see new memories being created with individuals and families, all surrounding amazing music, food, crafts, and people gathering together on the Bangor Waterfront,' said Heather McCarthy, Executive Director of the American Folk Festival. "I personally talked with people visiting Bangor for the first time, and visiting this festival for the first time who said it was the best festival they had ever been to. There are lots of those stories floating around, and we saw lots of happy faces on a very busy Bangor Waterfront throughout the weekend.'

For three days, seventeen musical artists performed on four stages along the waterfront. Musical styles from soul to Vietnamese to Cajun to blues were represented throughout the weekend. While the music was keeping people energized, a diverse sampling of food and crafts were available on Festival grounds, as well as a Children's Village keeping kids entertained with activities, crafts, games, and child-specific performances.

'The weekend came together in a perfect way," said McCarthy. "The weather was unbeatable, people were raving about the food and crafts, and we heard so many positive comments about the lineup of performers. It truly was a memorable weekend for Bangor and for the American Folk Festival.'

Looking ahead, the American Folk Festival team is planning for the 2015 edition of Color Bangor - the 5K color fun run/walk that benefits the Festival. Color Bangor will take place in the spring of 2015.

Next year's American Folk Festival on the Bangor Waterfront is scheduled for August 28-30, 2015. The American Folk Festival celebrates the roots, the richness and the variety of American culture through music, dance, traditional crafts, storytelling and food. The Festival is supported entirely by public donations that make it possible to continue to present the Festival in our community.
