Wait. What?
Yep, school. In order to continue services to help her converse, she has transitioned from in-home to educational. Which means she needs to get the services through a head-start program.
To say I'm not ready is an understatement of epic proportions. And though I know some of my reservations are because I'm a mom and have mom thoughts, I feel that some aren't completely irrational.
She's so little. I mean, even for a 3-year-old she's littler than most kids. Even though all of them seem massive in comparison to their smaller selves, placed side by side with kids their own age they are objectively smaller than most.
I worry how she will react when left alone at the new place. Due to the fast-paced nature of finding a place with room in a head-start program, we now have very little time to take a tour with our kiddo so she can get used to it before being left on her lonesome (and so I can get used to the idea of leaving her there).
I worry about her interactions with the kids. She's willful, and has recently started pulling her sister's hair out. That's right. Out of her scalp which is frowned upon in most cultures. Especially by other parents of other kids. She's also got emotions bigger than the moon. When she's happy, she's really happy and when she's upset, boy howdy. Duck and cover, ladies and gentlemen, she's going critical.
Then there's the logistics. If life were perfect, I'd want to stay for the first day of Head Start. But I can't, due to crazy life schedules. If she attends Head Start twice a week, I can drop her off no problem, but husband has to be at work by 10, and she's not out until 11, which means I have to either hire help or take Thing 1 and Thing 2 thataren'tcurrently enrolled to pick her up.
Then there's the car sickness. Oh, yes, both of my darling girls barf in the car, usually on any trip longer than 20 minutes (sometimes less if I'm in stop and go traffic or on a windy road). And Dramamine is iffy at best.
All of this adds up to me not being terribly enthusiastic about the prospect. But, we'll see how it goes. Fingers crossed for awesome, but I'll be packing some extra outfits and probably buying an extra bottle of wine for that week.
Don't judge me unless you plan on babysitting.
