Somic America, Inc is awarded the 2013 Toyota Excellent Quality Award and the 2014-16 OSHA SHARP Award

BREWER - In March, Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. (TEMA) awarded 29 suppliers with 'Excellent' awards for their performance in categories including supplier diversity, value improvement and quality performance. Somic America, based in Brewer, was one of those top suppliers who achieved the Excellent Quality Awards for 2013.

Approximately 1000 attendees from across North America attended the award ceremony in March. Somic America's president, David Keane and plant manager, Jane Boudreau, were there to accept the award on behalf of the Brewer team members. 'It was an honor to receive this award for the second consecutive year, I am very proud of the Brewer team for their achievement,' said Keane. With a 1.0 parts per million defect rate, Somic America is well under the industry average of 15, placing it at the top of its class for quality.

Within a few weeks of receiving the award from Toyota, Somic America learned that they had also achieved the OSHA SHARP Award for 2014-16, recognizing the continuous improvement in reducing safety and health incidences within the plant. SHARP is a national award, recognizing companies for their outstanding commitment to safety and welfare of its workforce. Somic America is one of 1,600 companies nationwide that achieved this status, and one of 40 companies in the State of Maine.

On May 1, Pamela Taylor, director of the Bureau of Labor Standards of the Maine Department of Labor, presented a certificate and banner to the employees of Somic America.

'I could not be more proud of employees, their commitment to safety and quality, and 2013 closes a year with great recognition for their accomplishments,' said Boudreau.
