If you seek a smart holiday gift, keep in mind that 56 percent of American adults are smartphone owners, according to the Pew Internet & American Life Project. But which smartphone is the right present for your grandmother, father or kids?

Senior citizens may prefer smartphones with larger screens, such as the Samsung Galaxy Mega and Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The Galaxy Mega is outfitted with a 6.3-inch screen, while the Galaxy Note 3 features a 5.7-inch display. They both have an 'Easy Mode,' and the large screens make it easier to use email, messaging social media and Skype with their children and grandchildren. A recent study by U.S. Cellular revealed that wireless technology helps grandparents stay in touch with their grandchildren. In fact, more than half (56 percent) of the grandparents surveyed call their grandchildren and nearly half (48 percent) text them using their mobile devices. A third of the grandparents (33 percent) even said mobile devices have improved their relationships with their grandchildren.

Mom and dad might prefer the stellar features of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 when it comes to a wireless holiday gift. The Galaxy Note 10.1's integrated S Pen has the precision of a pen and control of a mouse so note taking and emailing is a breeze. Its large screen is great for watching videos, so it is an ideal device for work and play.

For kids, tablets are always a hot holiday items. It is an ideal device for video watching and game playing, and there are lots of educational apps to help keep kids sharp away from school.

Mobile technology is embedded in our lives, and smartphones and tablets are at the top of many holiday wish lists.
