To benefit the Bicycle Coalition of Maine

ORONO As part of the festivities surrounding Bike Maine and Peddle the Penobscot, The Family Dog (59 Main Street in the municipal parking lot) is hosting a Beer and Music Festival to benefit the Bicycle Coalition of Maine. The festival kicks off at 1 p.m. on Sept. 7. There will be a diverse lineup of music, good food and beer. To help celebrate the event, the Black Bear Brewery is presenting a limited release of their American Brown.

Bob Cutler, owner of The Family Dog, had been looking for an opportunity to have a festival, and with the Bike Maine and Peddle the Penobscot events happening it seemed like a perfect match.

'In Orono, it's a diverse community. Whether you're a 21-year-old college student, a 60-year-old retired mill worker or a professor ... you will find something you enjoy,' said Cutler.

The bands playing at the festival are The Crown Vics (described as Rock-a-Billy, or Elvis Presley meets Stone Temple Pilots, according to Cutler), Stream Reggae (one of Maine's best reggae bands who have played at Peaks Island for the past three years) and the Gawler Family (traditional folk music).

The cooks at The Family Dog are also putting together a fun festival menu with items that include lobster rolls, pulled pork sandwiches, corn on the cob and coleslaw just to name a few.
