The Maine International Film Festival presents actor, songwriter and producer Keith Carradine with the Mid-Life Achievement Award. Carradine won a Golden Globe and an Oscar for Best Original Song for "I'm Easy" from 'Nashville' (1975). Recently, Carradine earned a Tony nomination for his role in 'Hand on a Hard Body' (2013).
The MIFF has assembled a retrospective of Carradine's work, including 'Nashville' (1975), 'Ain't Them Bodies Saints' (2013) and 'Thieves Like Us' (1974).
Carradine's visit coincides with the MIFF special programming event "Celebrating Robert Altman," honoring the prolific and provocative director. Along with films featuring Carradine, MIFF will screen Altman's 'Kansas City' (1996), 'McCabe and Mrs. Miller' (1971), 'Short Cuts' (1993) and Altman's final film, 'A Prairie Home Companion' (2006).
Award-winning jazz vocalist Annie Ross, who played Tess Trainer in Altman's 'Short Cuts' (1993), performs at this year's Maine International Film Festival at the Waterville Opera House, Wednesday, July 17 at 8 p.m.
Ernest Thompson, who won an Oscar for his screenplay 'On Golden Pond' (1981), will premiere his new film, 'Time and Charges,' as part of this summer's festival and will also offer a free screenwriting workshop.
Among others joining this year's MIFF are Oscar-winning director and 2002 Mid-Life Achievement Award Honoree Jonathan Demme, indie freelance journalist Anthony Kaufman and editor Pam Wise, who practically invented the music video.
The Maine International Film Festival highlights some of the best made or being made in Maine. This year the MIFF will feature the Maine premiere of 'Bluebird' (2013). Filmed in the Millinocket area, 'Bluebird' enjoyed its official premiere at Tribeca Film Festival.
The MIFF 2013 will also include work in progress screenings of highly anticipated Maine-based films, 'The Hermit of North Pond' and 'Lost on a Mountain in Maine.'
The MIFF presents films at the three-screen independent Railroad Square Cinema at 17 Railroad Square in Waterville and the newly-renovated 800-seat Waterville Opera House at 1 Common Street in Waterville.
