Bangor Waterfront will play host to inaugural Bangor Beer Festival in June

BANGOR The Greater Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau will present a first-time festival focused on Maine beers this summer. Bangor's Beer Festival Tap Into Summer - is a one-day event scheduled for June 22, 2013, that will feature a general session, a VIP tasting session, food, entertainment, beer aficionados and a focus on Maine breweries.

"This type of festival proves to be very popular throughout the region," said Kerrie Tripp, executive director of the Greater Bangor Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Maine has some great brewers, and the opportunity to pull many of them together, along with an energetic crowd on our historic waterfront, was too good to pass up. To say that we are excited to get this off the ground would be a drastic understatement."

Tap into Summer will feature selections from some of Maine's most notable breweries, including Geaghan Brothers Brewing Company, Sea Dog Brewing Company and Penobscot Bay Brewery. In addition to providing samples of their offerings, brewers will present and speak about special new brews and suggested pairings at the VIP session.

The VIP session will run from noon-1 and will feature Chris and Merideth of TheBeerGeek.com as keynote speakers. VIP ticket holders will also receive lunch, special brews not available during the general session and the opportunity to hear from some of the brewers. From 1-5 p.m., the general session will take place, offering a variety of Maine brewers for attendees to sample along with food and entertainment throughout the day.

'We're really excited to be collaborating with local businesses and the folks from TheBeerGeek.com,' said Tripp. 'This type of event gets businesses and the community involved, and showcases our region and its bustling creative economy. The brewers are equally excited and we are seeing continued excitement through more Maine breweries quickly signing up to participate in the festival."

Tap into Summer will operate similar to other tasting festivals, where each attendee will receive a wristband and samples punch card. There will be no admittance to anyone under 21, and special packages will be available for drivers of attendees. Planning is underway and more details will become available when confirmed.

Bangor's Beer Festival - Tap into Summer will take place from 12-5 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013, on the Bangor waterfront. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.visitbangormaine.com/TapIntoSummer.
