Matching games are certainly all over the place and there is no shortage of them out in the app store, but one that always seemed to pop up on my feed as a recommended game was “Royal Match.” Now, I’m not one to play matching games, but somehow, this one called to me – I gave it a try and it hooked me from the beginning. Somehow, I’m still playing it a ton.

“Royal Match” is your typical matching game, where you match three or more items on a big board and clear them. The more you match, the bigger the power-up lands on the board to clear even more. As you progress through the levels, there are more unique challenges that pop up like having to break all the boxes on the board, or a certain amount of pottery, eggs, etc. These challenge items can be located in places where only your power-ups can destroy them, so strategy to get certain types of power-ups is key. While you are doing all of this, each level you complete earns you a star; you use these stars to decorate the castle. The castle starts off completely barren, devoid of decorations and furniture, so you basically set the castle up for the King to live comfortably in.

The best levels, however, are the challenge levels. The King in “Royal Match” seems to always get himself into a pickle and levels will pop up where you have only a minute to complete the match board before he is harmed in some crazy way. One of the bonus levels, he was in a room with a wall moving towards him with drills on it, the only way to stop it was to match items 40 times, and you would be able to stop the wall. I tried many times, and finally beat the level with only one measly second to spare. That’s only one of the many situations he gets into.

“Royal Match” definitely hooked me … and I think it might hook you too. “Royal Match” is free to download on the Android and IOS stores.
