LEGENDS: The Music of Judy Garland,' Dec. 31 only, 5 & 8 p.m.

BANGOR - Penobscot Theatre Company will cap off its much anticipated holiday production of The Wizard of Oz by taking audiences over the rainbow and into the world of the star who brought Dorothy to life on film. 'LEGENDS: The Music of Judy Garland' will be at The Bangor Opera House for one evening only, Dec. 31, New Year's Eve, with performances at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Part cabaret, part concert, the show will feature acclaimed vocalist Kelly Caufield singing new arrangements of beloved tunes including "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," "Stormy Weather," "Johnny One Note" and "Come Rain or Come Shine."

"On this especially celebratory evening, we invite revelers from 9 to 90 to join us in a musical celebration of past, present and future," said Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport. "Judy Garland's influence on the American Songbook certainly earned her a place among the legends, and the remarkably talented Kelly Caufield offers fitting tribute. Audiences are sure to leave with a sense of peace and renewed optimism for the new year. Such is the power of great music!"

Presented in partnership with Good Theater of Portland,' LEGENDS: The Music of Judy Garland' has earned critical praise. The Portland Daily Sun described "an evening of music magic," lauding Caufield as "unique in her ability to act out every word and ferret each shred of emotion, bringing new understanding and levels of awareness to songs heard hundreds of times..." and the musical direction as "flawless."

At Good Theater Caufield most recently starred in Striking 12 and she performed previously in Little Me, The Spitfire Grill and Into the Woods, among others. She has sung with the Portland Symphony Orchestra and the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. 'LEGENDS' director Brian P. Allen is the artistic director of Good Theater where he has served for 11 years. Victoria Stubbs is the musical director.

'LEGENDS: The Music of Judy Garland' is presented with the generous support of BerryDunn and Quality Jewelers. As a special holiday bonus, those who purchase the first 200 tickets to 'LEGENDS' at Penobscot Theatre Company will be eligible to win a ruby necklace, valued at $1,000. "Judy Garland rose to fame in ruby slippers," reminds Executive Director Mary Budd. "So sending an audience member away with some red bling seemed like a good way to close our holiday season."

Tickets are $30 for subscribers and $35 for the general public. To purchase tickets or for more details, call the Box Office at (207) 942-3333 or go online at
