BANGOR – One of Maine’s preeminent improv theaters is going to spending some time right here in Bangor.

Bar Harbor’s ImprovAcadia will be bringing their brand of made-up-on-the-spot laughs to 51 Main Street over the coming weeks leading up to the kickoff of their 15th season at their theater on MDI.

They’ve already put together an interesting slate of programming – they’ll be doing versions of their standard show, of course, but there will also be a number of more specialized shows that will feature not just IA veterans, but players drawn from all corners of this region’s thriving improv community.

Here's a look at what’s coming:

January 26 & 27

This is the debut. ImprovAcadia opens the new space with two shows featuring their signature format of short form improv. The cast will be Jennifer Shepard, Amy Roeder, Jason Preble and Larrance Fingerhut. Show at 8 p.m. House opens at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to these shows are $10

Fridays in February – Mix ‘n Cagematch

Each Friday in February, ImprovAcadia will present the Mix ‘n CageMatch! And what’s a Mix ‘n CageMatch, you ask? Improvisers from all over the region are coming to 51 Main to throw themselves on the stage and play fortune’s fool – literally!

Each night, a different group of Improvisers will put their names in a hat. Names will be drawn at random and teams will be selected. At the end of the night, the audience will vote which team had the funniest set and they will have bragging rights for a week! Show at 8 p.m. House opens at 7:30pm. Tickets to these performances are $5.

February 17

Amy Roeder, Kae Cooney and Jen Shepard will take the stage accompanied by Larrance Fingerhut on piano to perform a three-woman improv extravaganza! Come see three hilarious women! Show at 8 p.m. House opens 7:30 p.m. Tickets for this one are $10.

February 24 – Community Well

It’s a Community Well, where a member of the community is invited to share stories that will in turn serve as the inspiration for an improv show. This one features Bangor icon Tony Sohns of the Rock n’ Art Shop to come and tell the tales that will inspire that evening’s cast of improvisers. The cast will include Allen Adams, Kae Cooney, Jason Preble, Jen Shepard and Larrance Fingerhut on piano. Show at 8 p.m. House opens at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.
