Many people in the Downeast and Ellsworth areas worked on or watched the boat being built in Addison and have wondered what had become of her since. This 90-minute film follows the life of the boat and the lives of the people close to the project through good and bad times. The film will be presented by WERU's 'Boat Talk Guys,' Mike Joyce and Alan Sprague, whose program 'Boat Talk' can be heard every second Tuesday of the month and is archived at www.weru.org. Joyce and Sprague talked with MacKay on-air on three different occasions.
The film premiered at the Maine International Film Festival in July with good reviews. It has since had showings in Portland and Brunswick. Dennis Perkins of The Portland Press Herald says about the film, 'This level of emotional complexity is very impressive, as McKay's decade-long odyssey reaches what seems its inevitable conclusion.'
The showing of 'Raw Faith' is a fundraiser for WERU-FM (89.9 Blue Hill and 99.9 Bangor) and Schoodic Arts for All. Tickets are $10 at the door (free 12 years old and under). Hammond Hall is located at 427 Main St. in Winter Harbor, a half-hour drive east of Ellsworth. For more information about the film, visit http://www.rawfaithmovie.com/RawFaith_Movie/Welcome.html.
