Previously, Deshane organized a musical showcase. The result was a set-list of hot local bands, including Sam & Yuri and Magnetic North. It was also hosted by Next Generation Theatre. The Union, however, proposes to do more by highlighting the collaborative nature of music and art. Musicians will play while artists paint alongside.
This style of call-and-response inspiration typifies most major aesthetic movements since even the time of the Renaissance, in one form or another.
The line-up this year includes music by The Rotating Taps and The Windora Project and live painting by Courtney Hutchinson, Kat Johnson and Krystin Noyes. The Union will also feature spoken word poetry by Allan Lloyd Trott.
The show promises to be an ebullient and exciting exhibit of local talent. 'If all goes well, we have plans to make this a regular event, perhaps a couple of times a year. Bangor has so much to offer; we really want to get people excited about the abundance of talent that exists here. That's what The Union is all about experiencing different types of art in harmony,' Deshane said.
The Union will be held at the Next Generation Theatre at 39 Center Street in Brewer, near the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from any of the participants of The Union or at the Next Generation Theatre.
