ORONO - Few entertainers today are as accomplished or versatile as Ben Vereen and his legendary performances are woven into the fabric of this country's artistic legacy. The Collins Center for the Arts Gala at the University of Maine, present 'Steppin' Out with Ben Vereen' on Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (207) 581-1755 or online at http://www.collinscenterforthearts.com. The Collins Center for the Arts is located on the University of Maine campus at 5746 Collins Center for the Arts, Orono.

'Steppin' Out with Ben Vereen' is a one-man show with a unique blend of artistry and a tribute to the music of Broadway, along with musical selections made famous by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. featuring hit songs like 'Defying Gravity,' 'My Way,' 'Mr. Bojangles' and 'Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries.' Each performance is filled with song and dance, stories of his life and Vereen's signature sense of humor.

Vereen has solidified his place among Broadway royalty with starring roles in such Broadway productions as 'Wicked,' 'Fosse,' 'Chicago,' 'Jesus Christ Superstar,' 'Hair,' 'Jelly's Last Jam,' 'Grind,' 'A Christmas Carol,' 'I'm Not Rappaport' and of course 'PIPPIN,' for which he won the Tony Award. He starred in the new play 'Fetch Clay, Make Man' at the McCarter Theatre, directed by Des McAnuff ('Jersey Boys') which will move to NY in 2013. On Jan. 30, 2012, Ben Vereen was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame.

Last spring, he released his first CD, 'Steppin' Out Live With Ben Vereen.' Vereen performed for 100,000 people at the Washington Monument on July 4, 2012. Recently, the Museum of Dance honored Vereen with a lifetime achievement award.

Vereen is the spokesperson for Sanofi US, a leading pharmaceutical company which specializes in insulin, and together they created a campaign called: S.T.A.N.D.
