Opera House Arts' Winter AltMovie Series 2013-14 Opera House Arts' Winter AltMovie Series 2013-14

STONINGTON Exciting things are happening for movies in Stonington. The list of 'alt movies' independent, foreign and documentary films is long and rich for the coming year. And as much as the long, hot, busy days of August lead us to think otherwise, cooler and darker days are on their way. Opera House Arts' AltMovie Series enters its fifth year beginning in September, and now is the time to purchase your subscription to ensure the AltMovie Series 2013-14 brings an additional film to our local theater midweek each month through April. Only subscribers make these additional movies and screenings possible; the number of individual year-round movie goers cannot independently support the AltMovie Series. Screening dates are typically the second Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday of each month. The series is only possible if 90 individuals subscribe no later than Sept. 15.

In March, Opera House Arts converted its historic, 1941 35mm projector to a true, high-quality digital cinema system with Dolby surround sound, thanks to a successful campaign for the Joe & Sue Rares Digital Cinema Fund. This conversion allows the Opera House greater screening options to show more films. This fall will see the introduction of live streaming broadcasts of theater, special events, sporting events and even gaming nights in super high quality on the theater's giant movie screen.

Two of the first films under consideration for the AltMovie Subscriber Series include 'Museum Hours' and 'Stories We Tell.' Subscribers requests drive many of the titles selected.

Subscriptions are $45 for seven movies, a $56 value, are fully transferable, and may also be used to bring one or more guests with you to any film. Purchase of individual tickets at the door are $8 per movie, $6 for under 17. This season's first Alt-Movie will be screened Sept. 17-19. Subscribe online at www.operahousearts.org or send a check to OHA, PO Box 56, Stonington, ME 04681. Please include your e-mail address.
