SpinOff Studio is an art center in the heart of downtown Hallowell that provides studio and gallery space to adults with disabilities. When SpinOff Studio opened in December of 2011 the walls were filled with art from big sister program Spindleworks in Brunswick. After one year the walls are hung saloon style exclusively with the work of the artists at SpinOff Studio. Currently on display is an aviary collection of drawing and paintings. This includes the layered watercolors of owls by Micah Webbert, roosters by Amanda Chubbuck and a painting of what Justin Boisvert considers the ideal Thanksgiving meal. Liam Crocker will have a display a series of landscape paintings and a collection of 33 wire sculptures in the window. On display in the entry is 'Hello my name is,' a self portrait by each artist at SpinOff Studio.
The mission of Independence Association is to 'assists adults and children with disabilities in obtaining a full and inclusive life in their chosen community,' which makes a celebration of SpinOff Studio a celebration of community. It would not be possible to for an entity like SpinOff Studio to exist without the support of a vibrant and accepting community such as Hallowell. The charisma and long list of parades and events in Hallowell has offered to shortage of reasons for SpinOff artists to be inspired and engaged in what's happening on Water Street.
Please join SpinOff Studio for a Celebration of art, creativity, and community on Friday, Nov. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. SpinOff Studio is located at 184 Water Street in downtown Hallowell.
