WINTER HARBOR The Schoodic Peninsula is offering an opportunity to explore its creative side this weekend.

The Schoodic Creates Tour is a free two-day, self-guided tour of the creative economy of the area, which encompasses a wide variety of businesses. There are visual artists and musicians, farmers and winemakers and non-profit organizations; in all, there are 40 stops on the tour. That's 40 businesses in 43 miles. In addition to the tour, there are a number of special events taking place throughout the week. There are concerts, lectures and workshops taking place with the various participants in the tour. Also, the Night Sky Art Show will be up through September 17th at 357 Main St. in Winter Harbor; the hours are 10-5. This show is being held in alignment with the Acadia Night Sky Festival.

'The beauty of the night sky has fascinated artists for centuries and it continues to capture our imagination,' said Carl Little, juror for the event. 'When we read about "dark matter" or watch images arrive from a Mars rover named Curiosity or simply gaze at the night sky, wonder takes over.

'Downeast Maine is a great place to view the night sky.  When I come home to Somesville from a late trip on a clear night and walk up the path to my house, I'm apt to veer off into the backyard just to look up and be swept away.'Schoodic Creates offers a unique opportunity to experience one place's creative economy on your own terms. This tour allows you to see a wide variety of artistic and creative endeavors, but also gives you a chance to experience them firsthand. With the various workshops and demonstrations happening throughout the weekend, you'll be able to try whatever you choose.
