Grand Film: Mike Birbiglia invites you to Sleepwalk with Me'
Written by Wire ReportsELLSWORTH - The Grand's film program of documentary and independent films, CineGrand, continues with the independent film smash 'Sleepwalk with Me,' screening on Wednesday, Oct. 10 through Friday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Mike Birbiglia plays 'Mike Birbiglia,' an aspiring stand-up who fails to express his true feelings about his girlfriend and his stalled career and finds his anxiety coming out in increasingly funny and dangerous sleepwalking incidents. Winner of a 2012 Audience Award at Sundance, comedian Birbiglia co-wrote, directed and stars in this sincere and hilarious film based on his off-Broadway show and bestselling book. It's also the first movie co-written by Ira Glass and co-produced by "This American Life."
ORRINGTON - On Saturday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitors to The Curran Homestead Living History Farm and Museum at 372 Fields Pond Road in Orrington can take a step back in time to an era when their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents were young, and observe or take part in many activities that would be very familiar to members of those generations.

Maine team competes in 8 day road race to recover missing children
BANGOR - The Fireball Run is officially underway and rolling. Forty teams took off on this eight day, 2,500-mile adventure rally last weekend in Ohio and they'll come to a screeching halt in Bangor, which is the finish line of the event, on Saturday, Sept. 29. But this outing is so much more than a road race - it's a race to recover America's missing children.

Sebastian Baverstam to open Gracie Theatre's Classical Series

BANGOR The Gracie Theatre's Classical Series announces their first concert Sept. 30 with a performance by talented cellist Sebastian Baverstam. Accompanied by pianist Yannick Rafalimanana, the program features Beethoven's Sonata No. 2 in G minor for Cello and Piano, Op. 5, No. 2 plus additional sonatas by Kodaly and Franck. The concert will be held at Husson University's Gracie theatre at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students and are available on the Gracie theatre website or by calling the box office at 941-7888.
Marden's Lady' to perform stand-up routine in Bangor
Written by Jodi HerseyBANGOR - She's one of Maine's funniest ladies, if not the funniest, and now Birdie Googins, also known as the 'Marden's Lady,' is bringing her one-woman comedy act to Spectacular Events in Bangor. Her one-hour routine is all part of Grace United Methodist Church's annual auction fundraiser.
"I do so many fundraisers because there is so much need out there," said Googins. "Fundraisers really like the 'Marden's Lady' because she's so visible and they get a good turnout. And it's rewarding to help with that and keep my finger on the pulse of what's happening in the state."
A wide variety of offerings populate theater's debut season
BANGOR The Gracie Theatre has announced the lineup for its inaugural 2012-2013 season.
The theatre, located on the campus of Husson University in Bangor, will be bringing four different touring performances to the Gracie stage this season. In addition, the Gracie will be offering a classical music series as well as a number of other events both live and filmed.
Husson University presents 'The Dhamma Brothers'

BANGOR - Husson University's School of Science and Humanities is proud to present The Dhamma Brothers, a dramatic documentary about teaching meditation in the Donaldson Correctional Facility, a high security prison in Alabama. The movie will be presented on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Gracie Theatre. A short presentation will precede the screening. The event is free and open to the public.
PROSPECT The Friends of Fort Knox are beginning to ramp up for their annual Halloween event, Fright at the Fort, and are seeking additional volunteers.
Volunteers are being sought to shuffle through the dark passageways of the fort as terrifying zombies during one of Maine's largest Halloween events. Volunteers unable to muster the appropriate ghoulish spirit may help out by serving as group tour guides, makeup artists or security helpers.
AlwaysPatsy Cline' a portrait of music, love and friendship
BANGOR Penobscot Theatre Company has kicked off its 39th season with its production of 'AlwaysPatsy Cline,' written by Ted Swindley.
'AlwaysPatsy Cline' tells the story of the legendary singer's relationship and ongoing correspondence with an ardently admiring fan. Louise Seger is a lonely Houston housewife, a divorced mother of two who absolutely falls in love with Patsy's voice the moment she first hears it on a television variety show. Before long, Louise is calling her local radio station every day, making multiple requests for Patsy Cline songs.
