BANGOR - Tellis K. Coolong, the author of the acclaimed books 'Walczyk' and 'I Am Not Walczyk,' about a bipolar film producer named Peter Walczyk, will be giving a free talk for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Maine) at Acadia Hospital on Tuesday, August 16th from 6:30 8 p.m.

Coolong is a graduate of the University of Maine, where he studied theatre and began writing in earnest. In 2009, in the midst of a major mental breakdown, he created the character of bipolar film producer Peter Walczyk and began crafting his story. His first book, 'Walczyk,' was published in 2013. His second novel, 'I Am Not Walczyk,' was published in 2016. Telly is currently writing the third installment in his Walczyk trilogy, entitled 'The Next Walczyk.'

In addition to reading from his books, Coolong will address changing societal preconceptions on mental illness, discuss his own personal struggles with bipolar disorder, talk about the therapeutic nature of writing and the writing process, and offer copies of his books to the public for purchase. There will also be a brief question and answer session following the talk.

This event is open to the public; anyone interested is encouraged to attend. Drinks and light refreshments will be served.
