STONINGTON - This Valentine's Day, Thursday, Feb. 14, join Opera House Arts at the Stonington Opera House (OHA) and friends and be one of One Billion Rising around the world to end violence against women and girls. At events around the island throughout the day, including community readings from Eve Ensler's 'The Vagina Monologues' and 'Emotional Creature' at the Opera House at 7 p.m., you are invited to join women and men from across the world as we walk out, dance, rise up and demand an end to this violence.

One billion women one of every three on our planet of seven billion people will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. One billion mothers, daughters, sisters, partners and friends violated is an atrocity. One Billion Women Dancing Is A Revolution. One Billion Rising, the largest day of action in the history of V-Day, is a promise that we will rise up with women and men worldwide to say the violence ends now.

Feb. 14, 2013 is the 15th Anniversary of V-Day, the global activist movement founded by playwright Eve Ensler ('The Vagina Monologues,' 'Emotional Creature') to end violence against women and girls.

'When we started V-Day 14 years ago, we had the outrageous idea that we could end violence against women,' said Ensler. 'Now, we are both stunned and thrilled to see that this global action is truly escalating and gaining force, with union workers, parliament members, celebrities, and women of all backgrounds coming forward to join the campaign. When we come together on Feb. 14, 2013 to demand an end to violence against women and girls it will be a truly global voice that will rise up.'

To participate as a reader, dancer, flash mobber or more, please call the Opera House at 367-2788 and speak to Jennifer Morrow or email  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
