ELLSWORTH - The Grand's Performing Arts for Children (PAC) Education Program 2012 season begins on Friday, Sept. 21 with 'The Russian Spectacular' - Russian music, dance and song by the world-renowned ensemble Barynya. Open to all school-age children, there will be two shows: one at 10 a.m. and one at 11:30 a.m. Teachers and parents are encouraged to attend with children.

Featuring Russian, Cossack, Ukrainian, Jewish and Gypsy Roma traditional dancing, music, songs and virtuoso performances on instruments including the balalaika, garmoshka (Russian folk button accordion), balalaika contrabass, bayan, Gypsy guitars, domra and violin, Barynya is known as the premier Russian folk ensemble. Children who attend will engage with the performers, and educators will be given curriculum materials for incorporating the experience into their school studies.

The Grand is proud to showcase this exciting performance as part of its 2012-13 Performing Arts for Children (PAC) Education Program season, a season that includes Arab folk music and dances, the Dancing Gauchos, theatrical productions of the books 'Rainbow Fish' and 'Treasure Island' as well as the educational Disney film 'Chimpanzees.'

Schools and home-school families can register for 'The Russian Spectacular' and all PAC performances by calling The Grand box office at 667-9500. Tickets are $3 per person.
