Is your website working 24/7 for you? If not, it should be! If your site isn't performing the way you would like it to, here are a few tips to help you start getting more from your online presence:

 

  1. Know the aim of your site. Are you trying to sell products or services? Provide information? Create a web portal? Whatever your goal, every page on your site needs to serve that common purpose.
  2. Lay out logical menus and organization. Great content is meaningless if no one can find it. Take the time to outline your sitemap and menu, and structure your pages in the best way possible.
  3. Grab your visitors' attention. You only have a handful of seconds (30 at most) to engage a visitor. Make sure the information they're looking for is prominent, easy to digest, and actionable.
  4. Create content that sells. The web may not carry the same content restrictions as print, but that doesn't mean you can afford to ramble on. Tell your visitors what they need to know in as few words as possible and make them want more.
  5. Use calls-to-action. The key to converting prospects into customers is demonstrating value. Alongside your sales-oriented content, present clear calls-to-action that prompt action (e.g. downloading a white paper, signing up for a consultation).
  6. Update as often as possible. A stale website is a black mark against your company. Whether you're posting news, blogs, whitepapers, or products, be sure to keep your content fresh and engaging.
  7. Embrace social media and the online community. Not only do social media sites provide valuable traffic to your site, but they also enable you to reach out to your customers and prospects. Take advantage of it!
  8. Keep up with SEO best practices. The more search engine friendly your website is, the more easily prospects will find you. Take the time to optimize all of your content and revisit it regularly.
  9. Optimize for mobile. Much of today's browsing occurs on smartphones and tablets. Design a responsive website, or create a dedicated mobile website but don't ignore the market entirely.
  10. Pay attention to your analytics. Remember to inspect your traffic logs to see how your website's performing - and don't be afraid to adjust according to what does/doesn't work.

Think of your website as a store-front that remains open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Make certain you are as well prepared to convert your online visitors as you are those who step into your business's physical location you will notice the difference in traffic and conversion rates in no time at all.
