Participation in the event is free, though interested attendees are urged to pre-register at www.umaine.edu/studentlife/black-bear-leadership-summit-2016/ in order to help plan the refreshments, materials and complimentary event T-shirts that will be distributed.
The Leadership Summit is a joint initiative of the UMaine chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society, which works to 'enable members to realize their potential through the advancement of academic excellence, leadership, and service,' and Sophomore Owls, a select group of UMaine second-year students who work with first-year students and the university community 'to promote excellence, integrity, leadership, passion, and inspiration.'
Speakers include Brig. Gen. Douglas Farnham, Maine's recently appointed Adjutant General; Dr. Robert Dana, UMaine's vice president for student life and dean of students; Dr. Carol Kim, UMaine's vice president for research and the dean of its graduate school; Chief Master Sgt. of the Maine Air National Guard's 101st Refueling Wing; and Todd Saucier, vice president and account executive for United Insurance.
University Credit Union is the lead sponsor of the 2016 Black Bear Leadership Summit. Other sponsors are the University of Maine Alumni Association, Army ROTC and UMaine's University Bookstore.
