MustTryIt.com expands to 14 cities, seven states and three Canadian provinces

BANGOR - Bangor-based MustTryIt! Media announced recently the expansion of its mobile website MustTryIt.com to promote the small business community in over a dozen cities. Bangor, Bar Harbor and Portland, Maine as featured cities were announced in early June when the site first launched.

In addition to the updates that facilitated the expansion, the mobile platform now also includes several new features to help small business owners connect with other buy-local minded consumers.

Founder Tobin Slaven explained the platform this way: 'We've been hard at work this summer. Our thesis is, more people would buy or shop local if one, they knew who to trust, and two if they had a personal connection with the small business owner, and to be honest, there are also sometimes things small business owners need to do to create a better experience for their customers, so we wanted to capture that feedback to help them get better too.'

The new mobile website includes:

  a virtual voting booth to vote for favorites

  a virtual handshake (online video) with the business owner so buyers can feel like they make a connection with the small business owner or staff

  a virtual suggestion box to collect anonymous and private feedback (avoiding the Yelp and negative review issue that is so controversial with small business owners) and so local businesses can serve their customers better

  and a virtual 'fishbowl' for prize drawings on a monthly basis - similar to what you would see at a tradeshow and a fun way for the businesses to engage with new customers

Slaven characterizes MustTryIt! Media as 'just a small startup from Maine, but the big players like Groupon and LivingSocial have done a real disservice to the small business community by promoting an unsustainable business model of daily deals and deep discounts as the only way to grow your business. Our goal is to spotlight what makes the local businesses unique, and a mission to make every day more like Small Business Saturday.'
