ORONO On May 5, Orono Brewing Company announced that they will be expanding their operations into a historic building in Bangor. Located at 26 State Street, the downtown Bangor location will house a brewery and tasting room.

Additionally, OBC brewmaster Asa Marsch-Sachs will use the new location as a pilot brewery; he will also operate a barreling room and create a Wild Beer program. The Bangor location will feature all of the beers found at the Orono location; pints, sampling paddles and growlers will be offered.

OBC is bringing a mix of manufacturing and retail to 26 State Street that mirrors the original use of the building, which was constructed by G. Rockwell Youngs of Bangor Cigar Manufacturing Company in 1911. The third and fourth floors were used as a tobacco factory from 1911 until the mid-1960s, while the first floor served as a retail outlet.

Now, after extensive renovations by building (and OBC) owners Abe and Heather Furth, the building is again poised to be used to its fullest potential. There will be manufacturing in the basement and retail space on the first floor, while the upper three floors will consist of loft apartments featuring Bangor Cigar Manufacturing Company relics.

OBC Bangor plans to open sometime in mid-summer; the apartments will be finished in mid-May.
