Many who knew Hensley before, during and after her cancer diagnosis have all shared that same sentiment.
"Dawna was always selfless, always supportive of everyone and always wanted to help others," said Lisa Eldridge, co-chair of Greater Bangor Bark for Life. "I think this year will of course be very special. We are encouraging anyone who was touched by Dawna to come, share a pint, a meal and a story about how she touched their lives."
During the past two years, 'Dawna's Day' has helped raise just over $3,000 for Greater Bangor Bark for Life. Patrons who stop into Geaghan's for a bite to eat or drink on May 1 from 7 a.m.-11:30 p.m. will be able to participate in the fundraising efforts simply by placing an order. A donation jar will also be set up at the entrance of the pub along with information about this year's Greater Bangor Bark for Life event planned for June 14 at Hollywood Casino Raceway in Bangor. And unlike years past, customers who would like to honor Hensley's memory will also get the chance to register to become a bone marrow donor if they so choose.
"I know Dawna will be looking down at everyone enjoying a meal or pint in her memory," said Eldridge.
