Conference to connect business leaders and educators

BANGOR - Building Bridges, a program of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce that works to foster connections between the education and business communities, will hold a conference to unite area educators and business leaders. The conference, entitled Bridge The Gap, will take place on Thursday, Oct. 4 from 3 to 7 p.m. at John Bapst Memorial High school.

Bridge The Gap will put business leaders and educators in small break out groups pertaining to the subject educators teach in the classroom. The groups will engage in facilitated dialogue about how to best prepare students to enter the workforce. Discussion will revolve around required skills and knowledge for various industries, what students can do to prepare and how teachers can implement such knowledge in the classroom.

'This conference will allow our region's educators and business leaders to connect on a close and productive level,' said Matt McLaughlin, program coordinator for the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce. 'They will be able to share knowledge and ideas, and discuss how the business and education sectors can collaborate to make a positive impact on the workforce of the Bangor Region.'

The final goal of Bridge The Gap is for each group to create lesson plans of how teachers can implement knowledge gained from the conference in the classroom, ensuring that students are impacted.
