BANGOR Each year, Bangor Federal Credit Union awards $1,000 each to graduating high school students of the following schools: Bangor Christian Schools, Bangor High School, Belfast High School, Brewer High School, Bucksport High School, Ellsworth High School, Hampden Academy, Hermon High School, John Bapst High School, Old Town High School, and Orono High School.

Winning students, family members, and school officials were present at Bangor Federal's annual scholarship reception on June 15, 2016 at the Hogan Road location.

CEO Steve Clark made a presentation to the students regarding the origin of the scholarship program as well as the criteria that is required to be eligible to receive the scholarship. Schools are asked to choose a student that best demonstrates a passion for community service and is always willing to get involved. The selected student is a graduating senior preparing for a post-secondary education - this scholarship is not contingent on academics, sports, college of choice, or need.

The scholarship is in memory of Don Soucy, who was the epitome of community service and the Board Chair of Bangor Federal Credit Union for over 50 years. During the celebration, each student had the opportunity to share how they had been involved in their community throughout their high school career.
