Maine-based Whole Oceans to repurpose former Verso paper mill

BANGOR – Join the Bangor Public Library in February for an author talk with Andrew Och on his newest book “Unusual for their Time: On the Road with America’s First Ladies Volume Two.”

MAC seeks nominations for Maine Arts Awards

AUGUSTA —The Maine Arts Commission seeks nominations for its first-ever Maine Arts Awards, honoring citizens, organizations, communities, schools and businesses for their deep impact on arts and culture in Maine.

BANGOR – A new timber product-related business has announced that they’ll be setting up shop in Millinocket, bringing more than 100 jobs to the region.

 

On Feb. 13,LignaCLT Maine, LLC announce they will become the first Maine-based manufacturing company of innovative Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and other mass timber products in our state. The company will open their new facility at the Millinocket mill site owned by Our Katahdin, Inc. The move is slated to bring over 100 direct jobs to the Katahdin region and increased demand for Maine timber.

BREWER – Some changes are happening at area institution Miller Drug.

The pharmacy business has changed since Miller Drug first opened its doors in Bangor in 1957—and continues to change at a fast pace. To best position the pharmacy for the future, the business started on a journey more than a year ago to expand the current services that they provide. While Miller has made strides in many areas, they have also faced some challenges, including difficulty with the recent implementation of a new technology platform designed to automate a growing volume of long term care sites and retail business activity.

Recently, Miller and EMHS have taken the opportunity to revisit and review the current service delivery model for the pharmacy.

BANGOR/PORTLAND – The Maine Basketball Hall of Fame has announced its 2018 class.

The induction ceremony – which will be held on Sunday, Aug. 19 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor – will feature 16 new members. In addition, a half-dozen Legends of the Game will be added to the Hall. A notable team will also be added to the rolls.

MOFGA executive director announces retirement

UNITY - The executive director of the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA), Ted Quaday, has announced that he intends to retire effective August 31, 2018. Quaday, 65, of Thorndike, Maine recently informed MOFGA’s Board of Directors and the association’s membership of his plans saying he is thankful for the opportunity to work with MOFGA to grow the organic movement in Maine and beyond. Quaday accepted the executive director’s post in September 2013 following the death of long-time Executive Director Russell Libby in December 2012.

Bangor Federal Credit Union CEO retiring

BANGOR – Bangor Federal Credit Union (BFCU) is pleased to announce that Chief Executive Officer Steve Clark is retiring after 32 years serving in the position. Basil Closson, who is currently the Chief Financial Officer of BFCU, will begin serving as CEO effective April 1, 2018.

BANGOR — Eastern Maine Community College is hosting the fourth annual Dysart’s Sno-X, a weekend-long snocross racing event that serves as the largest fundraiser of the year for the EMCC Foundation.
