Challenger Learning Center receives $25K grant

BANGOR - Students in grades K-12 from across Maine will have the chance to fly simulated space science missions, learn about computer engineering and conduct scientific experiments at the Challenger Learning Center of Maine, all thanks to a generous $25,000 grant award by the Davis Family Foundation.

BANGOR – Husson University’s Board of Trustees recently voted to approve the construction of a new 7,100 square foot, $3 million wellness learning center on the institution’s Bangor campus. The new facility will be devoted to delivering health services to Husson students, and health education opportunities to those enrolled in the University’s nursing, occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT) and graduate counseling programs.

Cross Insurance Center marks 1,000th event

BANGOR – Recently. Cross Insurance Center reached its 1,000th event since opening its doors in the fall of 2013. This milestone is just one of the exciting notable events the City of Bangor and Spectra, managers of Cross Insurance Center, expect in the coming year. The four-year-old venue should see having its one millionth patron during the spring and will celebrate its fifth anniversary in September of 2018.

19th annual food drive to benefit Good Shepherd

BANGOR - A Thanksgiving-week tradition, the annual food drive behind Bangor Mall (near Dick’s Sporting Goods, across from Oriental Jade) is set for Monday through Wednesday, November 20-22.

Radio personalities of Blueberry Broadcasting will collect non-perishable food in cooperation with Good Shepherd Food Bank.

30th annual Culturefest to be held at UMaine

ORONO — The University of Maine Office of International Programs and International Student Association will host a daylong celebration of cultures on Nov. 4 in the New Balance Student Recreation Center.

BANGOR - Halloween is that time of year when many children and even some adults like to dress up in costumes that make them look different and often scary. They may even take on the stilted walk or the pseudo-terrifying vocalizations of the character they are portraying. 

BANGOR – The Rotary Club of Bangor will celebrate 100 years of “Service Above Self” at their centennial celebration on Oct. 13 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. The public is invited to attend the event, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. and feature local entertainment and refreshments. 

ORONO — Native American ecological knowledge and western science will be integrated in some University of Maine science courses, with the goal of implementing the methods nationwide.

ORONO — The Lord Hall Gallery at the University of Maine will host an exhibition of stone sculptures created by eight emerging and internationally recognized Maine artists Oct. 6 through Nov. 17.
