Three Pint Stance - An Extreme weekend

This past weekend, Gneiss Brewing Company was lucky enough to be invited to pour at BeerAdvocate’s Extreme Beer Festival in Boston. EBF is one of the most well-known festivals this side of the Mississippi, and with good reason. It is a festival where some of the best breweries in the country come together to celebrate beer that pushes boundaries and redefines what a beer can be.

Three Pint Stance – The Brewer in the Rye

Most dedicated craft beer fans know what it takes to make beer. Barley, hops, water and yeast, mix it all together and voila, beer! Well, aside from the obvious point - that there is much more to it than that – the thing a lot of people don't realize is that barley isn't the be-all, end-all of brewing grains. Sure, Barley is the most commonly used grain when it comes to making beer, but other grains can bring lots of complex and interesting flavors to your beer.

Most of the time, drinking beer is a sedentary experience, and for the most part I am OK with that. When you want to drink a beer, usually you want to relax and enjoy it; there is certainly nothing wrong with that. Sometimes, however, you want a little more action with your ale, or perhaps a little stretch with your stout. Luckily, local breweries have caught on to theses desires and are offering a variety of beer-themed activities.

I’ve seen it written by tastemakers in the beer universe that 2017 will be the “Year of the Lager.” I don’t know that I totally endorse this blanket assertion, as it is clear that IPA will continue to drive the growth in the craft beer sector, but I can sense a growing emergence of traditional lagers and see them becoming a major player of the craft beer section.

Three Pint Stance - A New Beer’s Resolution

Beer has calories. That is just a reality and I’m not going to sugarcoat it (more calories that way). This time of year, when everyone is feeling bloated from the holiday binge, there tends to be an uptick in gym memberships - and perhaps a drop in mug club memberships. I’m here to tell you that you can have your beer and stay (relatively) trim too, I am living proof!

Here are some tips for controlling the number of calories you drink when you drink beer.

2016 is soon to become the year that was, and now is the time for looking back, reflecting, and making numbered lists about things.

This is a numbered list about beer.

In the craft beer world, flavor fads seem to come and go with relative frequency. We have seen the rise and fall of blueberry beers, pumpkin beers (although those still maintain a certain popularity), black IPAs and more. For every year, there is a style of beer that seems to catch on and “go viral.”

Christmas is creeping up - and the time available for gift purchasing is growing ever smaller. If you are like me, you haven’t even started yet, so let’s just get right to it. What should you get the beer lover in your life? I have a few ideas.

Recently, I was fortunate enough to set sail on a fantastic Caribbean cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas. The boat was amazing, the trip was wonderful and the weather could not have been more perfect.

This being said, I did have one complaint about the trip - and I am now going to rant about it in the form of a letter.
