MACHIAS -- The University of Maine at Machias is planning a nine-day trip to Cuba in the spring of 2016. The trip is open to both students and community members and will leave from Bangor on March 26 and return on April 3.

An upcoming informational session about the trip is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Room 232 of Torrey Hall.

This cultural exchange tour will visit many locations on the island of Cuba and explore aspects of Cuban culture, including art, food, economics and political history. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with local Cuban professionals, including farmers, teachers, artists and more. Locations include the capital city of Havana, Viales Valley, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Santa Clara and a night in Miami, Florida.

The tour fee includes round-trip airfare, ground transportation, hotel accommodations, most meals, a full-time tour director and any entrance fees for local attractions. Organizers encourage anyone interested in the trip to register as soon as possible. Prices will increase $100 on Oct. 1, and an additional $100 discount is available to individuals who have traveled on an Explorica trip before.

UMM students have the option to earn college credit.
