First President's Virginia estate to host a special day for Mainers

MOUNT VERNON On Oct. 11, join your neighbors and Meg Nichols, Vice Regent for Maine, of the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, for a special day devoted to Mainers at George Washington's iconic estate in Virginia. Mount Vernon is owned and maintained by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association of the Union, a private, non-profit organization (501c3) founded in 1853. Maine residents who register by Oct. 9 will receive free admission to Mount Vernon and a complimentary lunch. To register for this special event, please visit www.mountvernon.org/maineevent.

'As early as 1858, Maine has been represented on the board of the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, and contributed to its important mission of preservation and education,' said Meg Nichols, vice regent for Maine. 'I hope that you will join me for this special event on Oct. 11 and continue our state's legacy of support and connectedness to this very special place.'

Washington's beautiful riverside estate includes the Mansion, outbuildings, tomb, working farm and visitor facilities with 25 galleries and theaters. The Ford Orientation Center and Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center feature interactive displays, movies and immersive experiences in addition to exhibiting hundreds of Washington-related artifacts. More than 85 million people have visited Mount Vernon since 1860, when the estate officially opened to the public by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association.
