Father of the year

It's no secret that famous people can be kind of oblivious. They live lives of entitled isolation in a lot of ways; yes, they are out there in the public eye, but at the same time, they spend their days being catered to and enabled by the people around them. Many of them have no concept of proper behavior and no interest in observing standard social norms.

Being crammed together for hours at a time with nothing to do but wait until one's destination is reached it can be a trying and stressful time. Still, most of us are aware of the difficulties inherent to traveling and so manage to behave like normal human beings capable of adhering to societal mores.

Love him or hate him, there's no question that Donald Trump's thus-far shockingly effective run for the Republican nomination for president has made for some fascinating viewing/reading/whatever. Trump's tendency to 'tell it like it is' which some find refreshing and others find infuriating has been a zig in an arena where almost everyone tends to zag.

If you're like us, you're still reeling from the recent news of One Direction's forthcoming 'extended hiatus.' It's hard to fathom a pop culture landscape without that adorable flock of Brits flitting around sure, they aren't really going anywhere, but this is definitely a situation where the sum is much greater than its individual parts.

We're already seeing some of the obstacles that these guys are bound to encounter if they're out on their own. Even though they haven't parted ways, we're starting to get a sense of how they might act as individuals. The only real surprise is the identity of the one who stumbled first.

More VMA magic

As with anything, the Celebrity Slam cycle has its own ebbs and flows. Some times are richer with material, while others are less fertile. It's the nature of the beast.

Lack of direction

There's a lot of joy inherent to what we do here at Celebrity Slam. There's no denying that we take great pleasure in celebrating the foibles and faux pas of the famous folks among us. And happily, the tendency of celebrities to say and do things that are ridiculous or idiotic or some combination therein shows no signs of abating.

Jackass for justice

There are certain items that we come across for this space that are oddly comforting. In a world filled with self-important celebrities whose foibles and faux pas are driven by their own entitled egos, there are a few famous folks whose Slamworthy exploits spring from nothing more than their own glorious weirdness. It's particularly fun to make fun of them because they seem to be in on the joke.

Dear Jon

As you well know, Celebrity Slam occasionally takes a week off from picking off the low-hanging fruit of celebrity idiocy and instead chooses to celebrate the good. Since we're saying good-bye this week to one of the great figures in recent television history not to mention an individual that I personally admire greatly - this seems like as good a time as any to shelve the snark and go with sincerity.
