But just because this game is superficially similar to games mentioned in this space previously doesn’t mean that it isn’t worthy of frittering away a few minutes when you’ve got some to spare.
“Hex Blocks” is simple on its face. You’re given a hexagonal grid filled with smaller hexagons. You’re also given a number of shapes (also made up of hexagons). Your goal is to assemble your shapes in such a way as to fill up the grid. Easy, right?
Well … yes and no.
While the basic gameplay is easy and the first few levels are quickly solved, it isn’t long before the grid gets bigger, the shapes get weirder and you’ve got to expend a little more brainpower to make the necessary matches. That isn’t to say it’s TOO difficult – it isn’t – but things reach the right degree of challenging fairly early on.
And for what it’s worth, the game offers you plenty of opportunities for hints. If for whatever reason, you just can’t see it, you can request one of those hints; you’ll get a shape steered to the proper spot and you’ll be on your way again.
“Hex Blocks” is a fun, simple puzzler that fans of the genre will likely dig. Play for free at kongregate.com.
