Stolen sweets

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Authorities say a thief broke into an Albuquerque elementary school and stole more than a dozen boxes of Student Council chocolate.

KOAT-TV in Albuquerque reports the bandit broke into Ernie Pyle Middle School last week and also ran out with $120 in Student Council cash, a laptop, a wheel barrow and a garbage can.

Officials say the cash and chocolate belonged to the Student Council, which was fundraising for various school projects.

Out on a limb

HOWARD, N.Y. - Authorities say charges are pending against two men who led police in western New York on a vehicle and foot chase that ended after one of the suspects climbed a tree.

The Steuben County Sheriff's Office says the men fled a deputy who was checking on their parked vehicle in the town of Howard Saturday morning. The driver sped away at speeds reaching 80 mph and drove through a field before going over an embankment.

COLUMBUS, New Mexico - Authorities say an immigrant suspected of entering the country illegally attempted to make his journey in a shipment of red chile.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at a New Mexico border checkpoint said the man was discovered Thursday face down among a commercial load of the spicy stuff.
