Kibbles and Picks 2017 - Week 8

Much better.

After a stretch of mediocrity, Stella and I both stepped up our games significantly for Week 7. Unfortunately for me, my strong 10-5 showing wasn’t strong enough; Stella went 11-4 and extended her season lead by another game.

Kibbles and Picks 2017 - Week 6

Not a bad week for us, with a pair of 8-6 records, but that means that Stella maintains her one-game lead over me going into this week.

We were evenly split on the six games we disagreed on – Stella was right on the Jets, the Chargers and the Jaguars; I hit on the Panthers, the Seahawks and the Packers – and were slightly better than mediocre on the rest.

Once again, we failed to see eye to eye on six matchups this week.

Kibbles and Picks 2017 - Week 5

That was fun while it lasted.

My lead over Stella lasted precisely one week, thanks to another break-even week from me and a solid 10-6 performance from the pooch. Only Stella’s odd affection for the Browns – I assume it’s a Dawg Pound thing – and a two-point win by the Eagles kept me from getting really trounced.

(For what it’s worth, she was right on the Saints, the Steelers, the Titans and the Broncos.)

We’re at odds on a half-dozen games – same as last week. Hopefully, I can keep things close, but it kind of feels like things are on the verge of getting a little bit out of hand.

Patriots Progress Report – First Quarter

If this first quarter of the season is any indication, 2017 is going to be one hell of an up-and-down roller coaster ride for fans of the New England Patriots.

Considering that there were serious conversations about New England’s chances of running the table before the season started, it’s tough not be disappointed with a 2-2 start. Yes, there have been a number of injury issues that have contributed to these early struggles, but still – sitting at .500 after four games is not where anyone expected this team to be.

That’s not to say that the season’s first month has been all bad. There have been plenty of things to be excited about. And hey – up and down, round and round, it’s still the Patriots.

And now, the Progress Report.

Kibbles and Picks 2017 - Week 4

So as of the end of Week 3 … I’m winning.

I’ll be honest, I’m not sure how to feel right now. Granted, I’m only winning by a single game – hardly a dominating lead. And I got that lead only because my own consummately mediocre performance (8-8) barely topped Stella’s frankly hocking sub-.500 tilt (7-9).

Kibbles and Picks 2017 - Week 3

Weeks like these are what keep me coming back and risking abject humiliation.

I had a hell of a week, going 12-4 with my picks. Just a monster run. And yet … I only managed to gain back the game I lost last week, because sweet little Stella went 11-5 herself. All told, we’re both out to a pretty great start – we’ll have to see how it plays out going forward.

Kibbles and Picks 2017 – Week 2

And we’re off to the races once again.

I feel lucky to have escaped the first week only one game behind Stella. Thanks to a strong performance from the Vikings on Monday night, I landed at 9-6, while she starts the season at 10-5. Considering that I usually start the season in a much deeper hole, I’m calling this a victory.

(For the record: I was right on the Raiders, the Rams and the aforementioned Vikings. Stella correctly called the Ravens, the Lions, the Eagles and the Packers.)

Kibbles and Picks 2017 - Week 1

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the fifth year of Kibbles and Picks, the ongoing battle between man and beast in which I try to best my dog Stella in picking the winners during each week of the NFL season.
