Bark For Life is an American Cancer Society Relay For Life fundraising event where teams of cancer survivors, supporters and animal lovers gather to walk around the Hollywood Casino Raceway along with their canine companions. Participants form teams and raise funds until the day of the walk. This year's goal is to raise $30,000 and Saturday's Zumbathon helped the nonprofit collect $249 towards that goal thanks to the numerous donations that were collected at the door.
"We had several Zumba instructors approach us and offer to do a Zumbathon and I'm so happy with the turnout. We've never started fundraising this early and I think this will be our biggest fundraising year to date," said Eldridge.
Samantha Hammond of Eddington and her mom were just two of the numerous participants who attended the Zumbathon.
"Why did I want to participate? I love Zumba," said Hammond. "It's so fun. You get to meet new people and get healthy."
Eldridge is hoping hundreds of others will be just as excited to attend this year's Bark Fore Life event on June 15. Registration is $25 per person or $10 for cancer survivors.
"We're really hoping to get more people and more teams involved and excited about what's coming in June," she said.
