Block party event scheduled to aid families in Piscataquis region
DOVER-FOXCROFT - The Piscataquis Transition Team will host a block party and resource fair to support families affected by unemployment or under-employment. The event will include a free barbecue, distribution of food from the Good Shepherd Food-Bank and Living Word Food Cupboard, and various community based organizations offering information on community resources. The Smart Starts for Students program will be distributing the back to school supplies to families who registered and have been called or emailed to pick them up at the event.
400 backpacks still needed
MAINE - Penquis has partnered with Blueberry Broadcasting and Dunkin Donuts to collect backpacks for children who otherwise would not have one to start the school year.
In these challenging economic times, the requests for backpacks has outnumbered current donations. Penquis is reaching out to individuals, churches, businesses and our community partners asking for help in collecting backpacks.
Anyone who would like to participate can donate online at the Penquis website or drop off the gift of a new backpack at one of the Penquis offices at the following locations:
262 Harlow St., Bangor
50 North St., Dover-Foxcroft
170 Pleasant St., Rockland
All donations must be in by Aug. 20 so they can be distributed to families in time for school.
