Candice Cody loses duel to her spouse and former NFL player

She didn't get an opportunity to participate in a single immunity challenge with her tribe, but Candice Cody of Washington, D.C. still managed to last 11 days on “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” thanks to her winning streak on Redemption Island. There, she beat out three other players to secure a spot in the game but just couldn't squeak out another win last week against her own husband John and the contestant ultimately responsible for sending him to redemption island, former NFL player Brad Culpepper. I recently had the opportunity to speak with Candice, who said despite all the tension Culpepper managed to cause during the show, she and John have no hard feelings towards him.

TME: What do you think of all the twists?

Cody: I wasn't surprised. There was no way it was going to be the couples playing together. It doesn't make sense as a viewer to have loved ones together with each other because they're just going to be hanging out together. It makes so much more sense to have the loved ones on a tribe of their own figuring out things on their own.

The Maine Edge: What is the deal this year with immunity idol clues being thrown into the fire left and right?

Cody: The immunity idol is a huge amount of power in the game, but at the same time being given a clue to the immunity idol publically so that everyone in the game knows you have it is tough. I think throwing it in the fire as a viewer and as a fan is frustrating because you want to see that idol found and used.

TME: Did you think at any point during the episode where Colton quit that one of you on Redemption Island would be able to enter back into the game?

Cody: Afterwards, I thought, “Why don't I switch with Colton and he can quit from down here in the arena?”

TME: Have you and John forgiven Brad [Culpepper] or even talked to him or Monica at all?

Cody: It's a game. We were both playing as hard as we could in different ways. I reached out and texted Brad last week. I think we're fine. I have no hard feelings with Brad.

“Survivor: Blood vs. Water” airs every Wednesday night on CBS at 8 p.m.
