BANGOR – The Bangor Symphony Orchestra has received a $25,000 grant from the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation to support the Symphony’s efforts to move their operations to downtown Bangor and launch a mixed-use arts venue, the Bangor Arts Exchange.

“As a longtime supporter of cultural programs around the state, Bangor Savings Bank is proud to assist the Bangor Symphony Orchestra as they raise funds for new space in Downtown Bangor,” said Bangor Savings Bank President Robert Montgomery Rice. “We share in the BSO’s commitment to Greater Bangor and applaud their efforts to foster the arts in our communities.”

The Bangor Symphony Orchestra and partners Launchpad and Bangor Ballet moved into the historic Nichols Block at 189 Exchange Street in early September, where they are leasing the upper three floors from ANM Properties to be used for shared office space, rehearsals, chamber performances, community events, and more. The Bangor Savings Bank Foundation grant has allowed the Symphony to execute its first phase of renovations and musical equipment purchases; fundraising is ongoing for additional improvements, including stage lighting and air conditioning in the grand ballroom.

“We are grateful for this vote of confidence and support from Bangor Savings Bank, a generous and longtime partner of the BSO,” said Executive Director Brian Hinrichs. “As we seek to bring the Nichols Block back to life with music and the arts as the Bangor Arts Exchange, community support is what will drive our success, and we are thrilled for this auspicious start.”

The community is invited to experience the building and a showcase of Bangor arts organizations on Friday, Oct. 6, from 5 to 9 p.m. during the next Downtown Bangor Art Walk as part of the City of Bangor’s ARTober festivities. The Bangor Symphony Orchestra’s mainstage season at the Collins Center for the Arts kicks off on Sunday, Oct. 22, with “Symphonie Fantastique.”
