BANGOR – The Rotary Club of Bangor recently announced its 2018 leadership, with Bev Uhlenhake, city councilor and former mayor of the City of Brewer, at the helm of the club as president.

Rotary Club of Bangor, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, is comprised of a group of dedicated and active members focused on making positive and lasting changes in our community and abroad.

This year’s leadership under Bev Uhlenhake includes well-known community members, such as Jen Wilson and Nicole Mattson leading the membership activities of the club; Cintia Miranda and Deb Claflin handling the club’s public relations; Scott Boucher managing the club’s Rotary Foundation efforts; Roland Narofsky leading the Festival of Lights Parade committee; Susan Jonason heading the Music Off Broadway committee—the largest fundraiser of the club; Cynthia Bergin (President-Elect) and Paige Wilcox steering the Charitable Giving Committee; Ben Sprague managing the Scholarship Committee; and Bob Ziegelaar and Rebecca Kirk leading the International Committee. Brian Donahue was elected treasurer of the Club. James Westhoff and John Byrne will manage the new website, Susan Chaar will continue as speaker coordinator, and Ralph Foss and Matt Daigle will continue to serve as Sergeants-at-Arms.

In addition to the club leadership, the 2018 Rotary Club of Bangor Board of Directors were also announced. The board includes Directors Bob Allen (UBS Financial Services), Charlie Clemons (retired), Matt Daigle (ABM Mechanical), Clif Eames (retired), Al Faust (Edwards, Faust and Smith CPA), Susan Jonanson (Challenger Learning Center), Alicia Nichols (Alicia J. Nichols Fundraising Counsel), and Steve Rich (Stephen Rich | Architecture); Past President Steve Johnson (Avalon Village); President Bev Uhlenhake (Epstein Commercial Real Estate); President Elect Cynthia Bergin (Camden National); Secretary Deb Sanford (EMMC); Treasurer Brian Donahue (Bangor Nursing and Rehab); and Vice President Sarah Joy (EMHS).

“This year’s Rotary International theme, ‘Make A Difference,’ is absolutely perfect. Rotarians are known for being people of action and getting things done to better the community. It will be our focus for the entire year,” said Uhlenhake. “Additionally, I firmly believe that service is both fun and contagious. Seeing one’s neighbors helping others inspires those around. We invite our community to come join our efforts.”

Every year, after the new leadership is installed, the club receives a visit from the new Rotary District Governor. Area 9 Rotary District Governor H. Lincoln Ehrlenbach has been a Rotarian since 2002 when he joined the Rotary Club of Ellsworth. He served the Rotary Club of Ellsworth as secretary and president, and served on the board of the Ellsworth Rotary Foundation. Ehrlenbach will serve as the Rotary District Governor from 2017 to 2018.
