AUGUSTA - Kathleen Pierce, a well-known journalist with the Bangor Daily News who has covered the Maine food and hospitality scene for years, is stepping into a newly created role as Director of Membership and Communications for both associations.

“We are pleased to have someone of Kathleen’s experience and reputation join our team,” said Steve Hewins, president and CEO of both associations. Hewins went on to explain that “growing our already strong base of restaurant and lodging members, and effectively communicating our positive message to the public, are both core goals for the organization.”

The Maine Innkeepers Association and the Maine Restaurant Association have nearly 1,000 members representing all types of restaurants and lodging establishments in Maine, from small family-owned businesses to the largest global brands.

Pierce, a Saco resident, has covered tourism, food and travel trends for publications such as The Boston Globe, Boston Magazine and Taste of the Seacoast. Her popular blog, Urban Eye, has closely covered Portland’s burgeoning restaurant culture. She brings a wealth of knowledge to the dynamic position. “I am excited to become a strong voice for restaurants, hotels and inns across the state, and to help develop Maine’s important hospitality industry,” said Pierce. She starts on July 24th.

“This is a key new positon for both associations, especially as we work more closely together as one organization in the years ahead,” said Hewins. “Pierce’s command of issues facing Maine’s hospitality industry will help further our mission and be a solid asset for all our members.”
