BANGOR Fusion Bangor has revived its annual awards event and will take to the Bangor Waterfront on Nov. 15 in what organizers are calling the Fusion Awards Extravaganza.

The day of the event will see a temporary addition to the waterfront: a large tent, popping with different colors and bursting with music from the 1980s. This will be an awards ceremony and social event like no other in the Bangor Region.

The Awards Extravaganza, sponsored by Bangor Federal Credit Union, will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Upon entering the heated tent, guests will be greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne, hors d'oeuvres by The Maine Traveling Chef, a variety of flavored French fries by Street Bistro, popcorn, cotton candy and the chance to network and socialize with hundreds of others from the Bangor community.

Designed by Sweetest Thing, the event will be cocktail style, marked by bright colors, VIP lounge areas and a spacious atmosphere for guests to socialize and enjoy themselves.

Tickets for the ceremony are $35 and can be purchased at fusionawards.eventbrite.com or by calling the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce at 947-0307.

The awards ceremony portion will take place from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Fusion will bestow three awards, each of which has three official nominees. The winner of each award will be announced Oscar-style live at the event. The awards and nominees are:

The Innovator of the Year Award, sponsored by The University of Maine, recognizing an individual whose innovative work has positively impacted the Bangor Region.

Nominees: Eric Mihan, owner of Bangor Wine and Cheese; Gibran Graham, owner of BangPop!; Jeff Spaulding, attorney at Eaton Peabody

The Downtown Proud Vitalization Award, recognizing an individual, organization or business that helps contribute to the wealth and health of a downtown community in the Bangor Region.

Nominees: Abe and Heather Furth, owners of Woodman's and Verve; Central Street Farmhouse; Nocturnem Draft Haus

The Fusion Leadership and Vision Award (FLAVA), Fusion's signature and most prestigious award, recognizing an individual, organization or business that promotes the common good of young professionals and inspires them to reach their greatest personal and professional potential.

Nominees: George Kinghorn, director and curator, UMaine Museum of Art; Julia Munsey, marketing and PR specialist, Oxford Networks; 'The Nite Show with Danny Cashman'

'Not only is the Awards Extravaganza a chance for Fusion to recognize some amazing people and businesses in the Bangor Region, but it's also an opportunity for the people of Bangor to come out and have fun at an event that is unlike anything else that goes on in the community,' said Fusion's chairwoman, Jessie Logan.

Following the awards ceremony, the '80s cover band The Time Pilots will take the stage and play for the remainder of the evening. Guests will be able to dance and enjoy music, food and drinks. The entertainment for the evening is sponsored by Darling's Car Dealership.

Fusion Bangor is the area's networking group of young residents. The organization works to connect the young demographic to each other, engage with the community and transform the Bangor region into the preferred place to live, work and play in Maine. Fusion Bangor is a program of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce.
